SpaceX’s rocket lands Starship, which explodes

SpaceX’s rocket lands Starship, which explodes then. At the end of a high-altitude test flight, SpaceX has succeeded in landing one of their Starship prototypes.

In contrast to the previous versions SN8 and SN9 that collided in the ground, serial number 10 (SN10) touched down in Boca Chica, Texas.

But the end of the story wasn’t that. The space vehicle of next-generation puts its extended legs heavily down.

A fire then developed around its base and SN10 blew off on its landing pad eight minutes later.

However, the test and the fact that the prototype executed its flight maneuvers successfully, and managed to arrive relatively softly, will encourage SpaceX greatly. The company is confident of these milestones as the ambitious concept advances.

SpaceX plans to replace the Falcon rockets of Starships. SpaceX’s rocket lands Starship.

These vehicles perform regular missions for the U.S. Space Agency (Nasa), the US military, and other business concerns – both crewed and uncrewed.

But CEO Elon Musk says that Starship’s new 50 meters in altitude will do everything, much larger and better, by orbiting satellites and transporting passengers around the world and to destinations outside the world, including the Moon and Mars.

In fact, in 2023 he promises a lunar trip to the Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa online fashion retail.

Mr Maezawa is going to travel to a Starship with eight other people and this week he has opened a proposal to anyone interested in joining his ‘dear moon’ undertaking.

Nasa finds reason for the shutdown test ‘megarocket’

Much like previous prototype flights, the high altitude test was carried out on Wednesday.

The uncrewed SN10 mounted its launch at the research and development facility in Boca Chica and increased vertically on three Raptor methane-burner motors.

These power units shut down sequentially when approximating the target height of approximately 10Km (6.2 miles), and then leaning in the horizontal to go down to the ground.

The bellyflop descent, which is controlled by the large flaps at either end of the car, is designed to simulate the re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere by future, operative Starships from their orbit, showing the direction of travel to reverse speed on a large surface area.

The vehicle should return to a tail-down configuration just before the surface is reached.

It could not be managed by SN8 and SN9. The correct orientation and reduction of speed were not taken by both vehicles.

However, SN10 got it right and quickly slowed down and put the concrete pad down. The decision to relight all three Raptors in advance of landing, ensuring that at least two motors were in place to provide the required braking force, was certainly a major contribution to success.

“It’s a charm for the third time,” said SpaceX commentator John Insprucker.

However, not everything was perfect. Leaning was SN10. His stubborn legs appeared to have collapsed during touchdown. And when a water fire at the base of the vehicle tried to extinguish, it suddenly sprang up and exploded.

SpaceX already has other prototypes in Boca Chica up to SN19 in different assembly stages.

The Starship finally starts on top of a Super Heavy booster. That’s in Boca Chica’s construction too.

It could be 28 Raptors producing a powerful Apollo Saturn-5 cocket, which has sent men to the Mune, more than 70 megawtons (16 million lbs).

Combined, the launchpad will have approximately 120m tickets on both parts of the new SpaceX system – Starship and Super Heavy.

The two elements are designed to be completely reusable and return propulsively at the end of each task.

SpaceX hopes that Nasa’s return to the Moon this decade may be participated by Starship. In competition with a number of other aero-space companies Starship is currently providing an attractive system for astronauts to the lunar surface.
